Toyota and Lexus are recalling approximately a million vehicles spanning model years 2020 through 2022 due to a defective sensor in the front passenger seat. This malfunctioning Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor could short-circuit, potentially leading to the failure of the airbag during specific types of crashes.
The affected vehicles include various models such as Toyota Camry, Corolla, Highlander, RAV4, as well as Lexus ES and RX. Toyota has outlined a list of specific models and model years prone to this issue, offering to inspect and replace the faulty OCS sensors at no cost to the owners. The automaker plans to inform affected owners by mid-February 2024, while details and updates about this recall can be found on the Toyota or Lexus recall websites. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is expected to soon list this recall on its website.
